@Dan: I believe you are right in that the way the legend visibility works has
changed. While looking into this issue I found that the "visible" attribute
for all of hlgnd.children is not set, but the value for hlgnd.visible is set
correctly(on|off).
Although I've not tested the script after removing the condition you've
posted.
