Follow-up Comment #4:

This is busted on 4.0 and 4.2 branches, but the development branch works just
fine for me.  I don't even have the problem that Dan reported about the FLTK
xlabel extending below the bottom of the figure.  I'm marking this as fixed. 


For the original reporter, options are to wait until the 4.4 release or to
build Octave from source code.
