Follow-up Comment #10, bug #51830 (project octave):

Marshall - any further details? Are you able to get Octave to report the host
name again after restarting or is it now always "localhost"? If you are still
seeing the same issue with multiple instances running simultaneously, does the
gethostname function exhibit the same behavior?

Avinoam - if you can't get uname or gethostname to report the host name
correctly at all with your dev build, but it always works fine in 4.2, then
that seems like a completely separate bug. Please do continue to investigate,
but let's keep this bug focused on the host name sometimes being right and
sometimes being wrong in 4.2.
