Follow-up Comment #16, bug #51830 (project octave):

I was about to say the same thing.

Looking at my build log for default octave, it doesn't appear to using
gethostname.c from gnulib 

looking at config.h for dev, I see:

checking for gethostname ... yes


for the installed etc/config.h from a 4.2.0  I see:

checking for gethostname ... no
