Follow-up Comment #8, bug #47763 (project octave): This behavior doesn't seem to be limited to loading function handles. Creating the function handle 'f' with simply f = @foo; yields same results as loading it from file. If created without 'foo' in load path the resulting handle has no file associated with it and is always lazily evaluated.
