Follow-up Comment #2:

This works for me too.

I get the quoted error message in Octave 4.0.3


error: operator +: nonconformant arguments (op1 is 0x1, op2 is 1x2)
error: evaluating argument list element number 1


but this is fixed in 4.2.1.
