Follow-up Comment #12, bug #51574 (project octave):

It is true that the JIT, as it existed before it even stopped to compile, was
limited to speeding up a very limited number of loops.

Getting it to compile, and understanding how it works, is a necessary first
step towards compiling more loops ;-)
