Follow-up Comment #16, bug #52757 (project octave):

May be it is a libreadline problem. 
It is definitely looks like bug

except with ^C rather than with ^Z.
I recompile octave with --disable-readline and I do not see the problem.
Fedora has libreadline6.3 installed as well, but I cannot
figure out how to convince octave to link to that library. 
LD_PRELOAD trick does not work, I suspect 7 and 6.3 are not 
ABI compatible.
