Thanks for that. I thought that I looked through the
properties pretty carefully (and some years ago I worked
on this part of the system) but...
My other "apparent" bold was just a dumb mistake that I
made quite a long time ago. Code was misplaced so it got
repeated 3 times.

In case you are interested, I recently found "pdcrop" which
shrinks the Bounding Box. This helps in making it much
easier to place PDF plots in TeX/LaTeX. But you might want
to know that to make it work reliably in a script it is
necessary to close() the plot before pdfcrop. Otherwise
randomly the crop runs before the print has written the
PDF. It might be a good idea to make print synchronous.
Not quite like close(), but complete writing the PDF before
returning. And, by the way, pdfcrop is a perl script and part
of the LaTeX Project so it can be used/adapted as needed.
