Follow-up Comment #6, bug #52892 (project octave):

@Dan:
you can also specify .., "endofline, "\r\n", ... (same with textscan).
endofile can be "" (empty), "\n", "\r", or "\r\n", see help.

Behind the scenes, textread.m's backend strread.m strips away the leading CR
before any further processing of EOLs.
