Follow-up Comment #3, bug #53023 (project octave):

Rik, what do you mean by "export to pdf". Is it "Save As" pdf file from qt
plot window? I get the same problem as print to pdf. 
Also, if I do not set "LIBGL_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE=1" the figure on screen does not
look like the print outputs. It looks as expected (?) if I do use software
renderer. The "Save as" pdf still looks bad.

This is on Fedora 27 with i7/amd graphics and all fairly recent libraries. (QT
5.9.2)
