Subject: [Octave-bug-tracker] [bug #51848] Variable editor should show text strings in one cell, not as separate chars each in distinct cells

Update of bug #51848 (project octave):

                  Status:                   Fixed => In Progress
             Open/Closed:                  Closed => Open

Follow-up Comment #14:

Reopening. + status to In Progress

Still I see no string text in the V.E., see attached screenshot. I was hoping
to see "text" in cell (2, 3) rather than "[1x4 string]".

Double-clicking cell (2, 3) and then pressing the Enter key turns cell (2, 3)
into the string "[1x12 string]" (literally).
Double-clicking and entering "text" (w/o quotes) returns the shown cell
contents to "[1x4 string]" and in the terminal, 'a{2, 3}' correctly returns
Î…text" (all w/o quotes).

In addition, when letting the cursor rest on a cell, a black popup with the
text "Tip" appears (just a very minor annoyance).
