Follow-up Comment #7, bug #53034 (project octave):

Setting the SHELL variable made no difference.  

I agree that the syntax appears to be correct and I also tried


octave 0<&-


I made a test script launch.sh with


#!/bin/sh
exec 0<&-

octave


but still no luck.
