Follow-up Comment #6, bug #53124 (project octave): Good news that Octave can be installed to paths with spaces now. I didn't know that yet. However, it still stumbles upon folders with non-ASCII characters. The %ProgramFiles% variable is localized on some Windows version (e.g. the default is C:\Programme on a German Windows XP). I don't know for sure. But that path might contain non-ASCII characters on other locales.
