Follow-up Comment #38, bug #53046 (project octave):

@Torsten, comment #36:  Philip probably sees no change in visibility because
it sounds like the floated dock windows always go hidden when the parent goes
out of focus (that's the kwin behavior, apparently).  If closing the V.E.
causes it to go out of focus, the floated windows were already hiding on his
system.  In other words, he's unaware of the issue that your changeset
addressed.
