Unfortunately due to private affairs this week I may not have much time for
testing until Thursday evening, and it is late on a Sunday evening now here.
Maybe maybe tomorrow night I can give it a try.

What should the patch be applied to? do I have to backout Torsten's focus
patch and your patch from comment #24 first?

W/o empirical testing it isn't easy to grab the meaning of what you write in
comment #42 about free-form window behavior. But I'ĺl gladly try it out.

As for me I like separate floating VE panes all over the place, arranged,
resized and contents shifted by the slider bars in such a way that just the
interesting cells are visible. That is already possible after your patch from
comment #24. I think it is brilliant.
AFAIK not even Matlab can do this, maybe not even several other IDEs for other
script languages like Spyder, R-Studio, etc.
