Follow-up Comment #1, bug #53260 (project octave):

I'm attaching a patch that assigns an icon to the variable editor, but what
I've used for the icons

graphic_logo_VariableEditor.png
graphic_logo_VariableEditor.svg
letter_logo_VariableEditor.png
letter_logo_VariableEditor.svg

are simply copies of the

graphic_logo_WorkspaceView.png
graphic_logo_WorkspaceView.svg
letter_logo_WorkspaceView.png
letter_logo_WorkspaceView.svg

icons.  We need design a unique icon in that style.  I may have done something
with GIMP in the early stages of those icons, but I've forgotten how I did it
or I'm not 100% sure of what the current process is.  For the variable editor,
perhaps something along the lines of the WorkspaceView icon is right, i.e.,
something like tables or spread-sheet-like.  Of course, it would be a "v" for
the LETTER icon version.

Some questions regarding the icons:

What is the SVG version of the icon?  I compare the PNG and SVG icon in
xviewer and they look nearly the same but not quite.  The SVG is missing one
or two pixels along the right and bottom edge of the central graphic.

Is the design of the icon done with some types of graphics program like GIMP? 
In such a case, the icon file would have the Octave logo as one layer (in
back) and a "v" or the "central icon" in another layer (in front).  That way
it would be very simple to create a new icon.  So, I'm wondering if there is
some way to save the icons as, say, XCF file and then have as part of the
"make" process translate those files into PNG and SVG.  Of course, that means
an extra tool for make.

If Torsten or someone handles the icon design already, feel free to take this
over.  Otherwise, I will search around to see if I recall whether I created
icons in the past and how.
