Follow-up Comment #1:
This warning message is issued from the GTK+ version 2 library. This is an
old library that Octave has never used directly, but was probably pulled in by
Qt 4 or some other library that Octave does use.
There is nothing that Octave can do about this warning message. Moreover,
large GUI toolkits are notoriously bad about emitting warning and error
messages despite an application behaving well.
On a current build of Octave with Qt 5 and more up to date OS packages, I do
not see this warning message.
