Follow-up Comment #44, bug #53006 (project octave):

Threads and processes are two different things.  Threads share memory and must
coordinate using mutex's and the like and should be designed well from the
start.  A process is a fairly self-contained entity, as the QtAssistant is. 
QtAssistant has its own search engine.  It's a stand-alone thing, much like
what Windows uses for documentation...my memory of it anyway; perhaps WIndows
has some new kind of help system.  (The point is that QtAssistant might be a
format that is quite familiar to Windows users.)  The thing one doesn't get is
a shared icon that will group with other icons in the KDE/Plasma manager.  If
you are imagining a sophisticated integration of Octave command line searching
into the QHC file, QtAssistant won't do that, but as far as ease, can't get
much easier than launching a process with the proper launch command.
