Follow-up Comment #1:

Can you please try the shapewrite.m version in the repo?

mapping-1.2.1. is from June 2016, since then many fixes to various files,
a.o., shapewrite.m, have been pushed.

FYI, as mapping pkg maintainer I run a much newer mapping dev version and that
gives me 3 files with your code. I haven't tied reading it in QGIS or so but I
think they're OK.

Admittedly a new mapping pkg version is long overdue.
I'm busy fixing shaperead.m to do proper polygon /polyline clipping when
reading with a Bounding Box, once that's fixed and a new geometry pkg is
released (a mapping pkg dependency, and its maintainer is waiting for a last
contribution by me) I'll make a new mapping pkg release.
