Follow-up Comment #3, bug #52475 (project octave):

I've built a copy of sundials 3.1.0 and I confirm the error and that the API
has changed significantly.

I think we're probably short on time to get a true fix in for 4.4, so it might
make sense to add tests to configure for the ida_dense API and conditionally
compile out those parts of the code. I can take a look at doing that in the
short term.
