Follow-up Comment #4, bug #53513 (project octave):
Adding arbitrary delays like this or like

are merely "papering-over" solutions to timing issues. I could give lengthy
details of specific examples, but suffice it to say one is never sure what
happens when a system is at max load or whether re-pinging an operation is
going to affect data integrity of the process one is waiting on to complete.
Unfortunately, it turns a bug into something rare and obscure but never total
confidence something won't fail.
