Follow-up Comment #13, bug #53422 (project octave):
With the fixed shapewrite & shaperead (& dbfwrite) I can produce shapefiles
for Point, Multipoint, Line and Polygon that display perfectly in ArcMap and
QGIS 2.18.
My comment about Line turned out to be due to coordinates being out of the map
range - "zoom to layer" helped.
Please confirm if it works for you now; then I can close this bug report.
