I pushed the minimal fix, adding "ishold (hax)" to patch.m and surface.m.  See
http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/c8fc547ab5dd.

@Dan: For the figure naming issues, can you query the Octave Maintainers list
about what the desired behavior should be?  Then we can sync all of the
toolkits to the same title strategy.
