Follow-up Comment #3, bug #53824 (project octave):
Confirmed (via my postgrad :-) that Matlab does the same thing.
Still unexpected behaviour though. Only really noticed since 4.4 (under
flatpak) seems a bit more challenged, such that even the
demo questdlg
shows this aberrant behaviour (Works OK, by fluke, in 4.2.2).
