Details:

I spent an evening entering four vectors with 25 values each in the Editor and
then tried to save the results to the filename 2018-07-30-vectors.*. Octave
gave me an invalid filename error, stating that it was not a valid Octave
filename, and Octave could not read the file later. I searched the PDF manual
with Adobe Reader advanced search, and there is no definition of a valid or
invalid filename. This is why I prefer commercial packages. They give
thought to what it looks like to someone trying to learn from the manual for
the first time.
