Follow-up Comment #1, bug #54490 (project octave): Matlab r2018b prerelease; >> disp("Testing simple assignment:") clear; a(k=1) = (k=2); k Testing simple assignment: a(k=1) = (k=2); ↑ Error: Incorrect use of '=' operator. To assign a value to a variable, use '='. To compare values for equality, use '=='. The exampe to test in matlab won't work - AFAIK in matlab you can't define functions on the command line.
