Follow-up Comment #176, bug #54235 (project octave):

I would like to correct a mistake I made here earlier (comment 97) that
apparently led to some confusion.  When you first install Solaris 10 there is
no option to select POSIX or not.  I had POSIX conflated with Kerberos.  You
can choose Kerberos or not.  That is the option I declined.  Solaris 10 does
in fact support POSIX by default.

The problem (or a problem) is where the various POSIX components live.  There
is an excellent table describing this here:

that details which directories need to be in PATH depending on which POSIX is
required.

Meanwhile, I am still working on this and managed to restore Joe's excellent
work from my ufsdump file and was able to get his 4.0.0 Octave (including GUI)
running again.  So it really must be possible to build Octave in Solaris.

Now if only I could figure out how he worked this magic :-)
