Details:

The default values of the axes property 'tightinset' and the text property
'extent' may differ between systems. Is the default value coded or derived? Is
it dependent on some run-time condition?

In the 4.4.1 distribution uploaded by jwe to ftp.gnu.org, the axes
'tightinset' property says the default value is '[0.042857 0.035725
0.000000 0.023810]'.

On my system the default value is '[0.042857 0.038106 0.000000
0.023810]'.

And for the text 'extent' property, the default is documented as '[0 0 0
0]'. But on my system the default value is '[0.000000 -0.005843 0.000000
0.032136]'.
