Follow-up Comment #19, bug #54718 (project octave):

This is also unexpected for me. If the directories were out of sync and I
enable the setting, I would expect that the GUI elements would change to match
the current working directory of the interpreter. That's the way it used to
work and it made a lot of sense to me.
