Follow-up Comment #1, bug #55133 (project octave):
Stuart, thanks for the report. I had a similar issue recently and was able to
solve it by removing the entry "column_state" in the section
"[filesdockwidget]" of the settings file. You can find the settings file at
"$HOME/.config/octave/qt-settings".
Unfortunately, I was not able to reproduce the error or to find the cause for
the obviously compromising entry value.
