Follow-up Comment #2, bug #55318 (project octave):
The patch is working for me. However, maybe we should move the check for a
running GUI into __octave_link_gui_preference__, which would then just return
an empty string in case the GUI is not running (see attached patch). Then the
check would be done at a "central" place for future uses of
__octave_link_gui_preference__.
