Follow-up Comment #21, bug #56037 (project octave):

You're right that it is probably down to the different eigenvectors.  With
most iterative optimization algorithms the eventual local minimum found
depends strongly on the starting position.  I accept that.  But when you start
at the same place, and use the same algorithm, I find it odd to arrive at
different destinations.
