Details:

After opening octave --gui and typing
help sin (similarly doc sin)
the command window stops working. You can type in any command, but except
echoing the command nothing happens.
I removed .config/octave
This does not change anything.
octave --nogui and octave-4.4.1 --gui work fine

octave is build with ./configure
