Follow-up Comment #3, bug #56127 (project octave):

Agree, it's intuitive to me that the default should match standard spreadsheet
behavior. The Tab key already moves the cursor to the right, and creates new
columns as necessary. The Enter key should do the same, and add new rows when
the last row of the matrix is reached.

Side point: is there a reason why 16 blank rows are always appended to the
variable editor?
