Update of bug #44035 (project octave):
Summary: classdef is unable to to subclass double => unable
to subclass built-in types

Follow-up Comment #1:
Changing title since this is a general problem with all built-in types.
In Matlab, are built-in types like "double" or "struct" considered to be
classdef objects, or do they just behave like classdef objects in some cases
(subclassing, overloading methods, etc.)?
