I pushed the following changeset.

I'm not completely sure this is the correct change. Is the correct question
here to ask whether parent classes are also partially constructed or is some
other test correct? In any case, it does appear to fix the problem reported
here.
I incorporated your example as a test case, so if my fix is incorrect and
causes other problems later, I hope a future fix (if any) will not cause this
problem to reappear.
