Follow-up Comment #2, bug #56201 (project octave):

@Mike: What about the attached changeset?  It softens the warning message,
which is only printed once per Octave run, to indicate that "Many formats may
not be available" unless ghostscript is installed.

One could be more precise, but it starts to get complicated.  For example,
'pdf' is not possible without gs, but 'pdflatex' is.  And you noted that 'png'
is available, but it is not if you have switched the renderer in either the
figure or the print command line to "painters".

Rather than working through all of those cases, I just thought it best to give
a gentle nudge to install ghostscript.
