I doubt that this is the real cause of the problem that you are
seeing.

In all cases like this that I have seen so far, the problem is that
the C and C++ system libraries are not compatible with each other, or
they are not compatible with the versions that Octave was linked
against.  Did you recently upgrade your C or C++ libraries?
