Recursion seems to be much slower (30 to 50%) then in 2.1.53 version.
(E.g. sylvester_matrix)
Also most ATLAS/LAPACK calls seems a little bit slower as well
(1% to 5%), which looks as there is some extra overhead in
subroutines calling. This is not a big deal, but might be an
indication of the other problem(s).
Simple 'for' loop runs ~30% faster.
This is reproducible on two different (though somewhat similar)
computers (Athlon XP and AthlonMP X 2).
gcc version 3.3.2 20031022 (Red Hat Linux 3.3.2-1)
-O3 -march=athlon-xp
Unfortunately I nuked octave-2.1.53 before installing 2.1.54,
so cannot be more specific at the moment. I will re-install and
investigate further if no-one is able to reproduce what I see.
Sincerely,
Dmitri.
