I meant to say I do not understand what does the fact, that I have
this warning and Dan does not, mean ...

I quited octave, restarted it and here I have this bug:


octave:1> a
error: `a' undefined near line 1 column 1
octave:1> ones(1000,10)
warning: connection to external pager (pid = 18695) lost --
warning: attempting to finish pending computations...
octave:2> a

????

So yes, there does seem to be a bug here.
