Agreed, but for the case of the patch manager, and the graphics handles
there is already code. It might be incomplete and buggy but getting it
in early is the way of accelerating its development. As for "[x{:}] =
..." this will cause an API change and so if the goal of the 3.0.x
releases is to keep the same api version number so oct-files can be
shared, then this must go in before 3.0.x or be delayed till the post
3.0 development tree.
