This is just my $0.02

I do not think a generic XML parser should be considered as
an "end-user" product, but rather a "middleware" (pardon my
language) for people who would use it to wright parsers for
specific XML-based data formats (I could think about ggobi and
OO.org spreadsheet, to name a few).
The said parsers should be easy to use and robust, but the
underlying XML-parsing library will probably have enough
rope to shoot yourself in the foot...
