I think you can edit the patch and it should still apply.

In any case, I can't get the unmodified patch to apply cleanly.  It
also seems a bit odd that your changes include nearly every line in
the file, many of which don't appear to have changed.  Did something
strange happen with whitespace or line endings on your end?

EOL problems are likely. This file was emailed back and forth a few times.

I converted all dos/mac EOLs to the unix variant.
