If you are interested in working on something like this, then I
encourage you to join the maintainers mailing list and post your ideas
there.  Since GUI features are tightly coupled with graphics in
Matlab, I expect that it would be helpful to coordinate your efforts
with the people working on improving Octave's graphics capabilities.
