Therefore I have carried out quick test,

// inftest.cc
#include <iostream>
  using namespace std;

  int main()                       
  {                            
    cout << 1.0/0.0; 
  }
g++ inftest.cc
cygwin gcc-4.3.2 and gcc-3.4.5 mingw
$ ./a
inf

gcc-4.3.0and gcc-4.3.2 TDM
$ ./a
1.#INF

Perhaps it is origin of the failures.
