Those kind of views won't make you popular here :)

I think the best way would be to build upon the existing projects,
both for an IDE and graphics. I know this isn't very appealing (I
myself decided to build a backend from scratch despite warnings 5
years ago. The result is octplot which is dead for the last 2 years).
It much cooler to start something new and shiny, just the way you like
it instead of joining some "old" project, and arguing in the mailing
lists as to how to code it with other people having other opinions and
precedences.
But realistically, this kind of project will take a long time to
complete, usually more time than one person has, and fragmentation of
efforts will juts lead to yet another half finished IDE/backend which
will slowly decay since nobody will be maintaining it a year (or 3)
from now
