I concur that this also grates my nerves each and every time I'm
unfortunate enough to have to sit down in front of Matlab. In my
experience fprintf is a drop in replacement for printf even in
Matlab--it's just that octave trains my fingers to believe that printf
exists. Expelling printf from octave may actually solve the problem in
a perverse manner.
