I tried it.  It works except for:

error: `iter' undefined near line 54 column 45
error: called from:

I tried to patch this, but must have put the definition of iter in a wrong place.
Anyhow, it works.  After adding a message for the fail case, I think that this is
the best that can be done in this situation.  These are many causes of the files
not showing up right away.  In the NFS case, this is a well-known "feature" of
NFS.  This is not the way the world should be, but...
