I don't object to making this change.  Will we be using gnuplot or
gl2ps to generate the plots?  Which looks better?

This seems like a good step.  Could whoever does this change consider
including axis labels and titles for the Figures?  It is generally good
practice to label Figures,  even though they are just examples in the Manual.
Never hurts to remind the reader.
